Swim Team 2017!

This year we had TWO Squillante swimmers on swim team! Jay AND Charley Kate!

We knew Jay was going to have a fun season because he is so natural in the water and at the top of his age group. I wasn't sure about Charley Kate and didn't know that she could swim a full length without stopping or under the required 55 second time limit. But at her first time trial when she went 37 seconds, I knew we were going to have a LOT of fun watching her too!

And the best part, they are in the same age group this year and got to swim at the same practice time- hallelujah! So each day for the month of May and most of June we trekked it up to the pool for swim team. Normally this would be a fun time for Molly to swim in the baby pool and me to chat with the other moms- but not with Kelsey in tow! She was wild and all over the place! She'd walk up to the swimmers or the side of the pool over and over over. It was a whipping, I won't lie. My saving grace is knowing this is my only year I have to do this! Next year she will be almost two and much better at listening! Ha!

Anyway, Jay improved over the course of the season and ended up making it to Meet of Champs! He finished FIRST in all three of his events at Meet of Champs (the district wide swim meet where only the top 3 swimmers from each pool make it and compete in prelims and then again the top 8 compete in the finals!)!! He was amazing and we are so so proud of his efforts! He went a 19.55 in freestyle, a 23.20 in backstroke (which was only .19 seconds off the record- how fun would that have been?!), and his free relay finished 1:28- which was crazy fast!

Charley Kate is the one who improved tremendously! She went from a nervous, anxious girl who cried through the first month and a half of practice (seriously... she'd cry every. single. day... but then say how much fun she had and couldn't wait until the next practice), to a confident little fish! She started the season out going 37 sec in freestyle and ended going 28.72! She ended the season going 38.10 in backstroke! Huge improvements! She is so excited to be at the top of her age group next year and dominate! She was also one of TWO little 5 year olds who swam in this age group. The rest of the girls were 6 and some were even 7! Go CK!

We super loved swim team and are so thankful for all the people and coaches who devote so much time to this. It's a fun time and you get to know so many new people at the pool! Can't wait to do it again next year!

The Baby is ONE!

It is so hard for me to believe our last baby is ONE!

Never again will we have a baby in the house! No more counting by months when people ask how old they are. No more infant anything. Almost all the baby toys and gear are gone. I have packed up my pump. This is just crazy and weird and exciting all at the same time.

It's no surprise to anyone who has read this for any amount of time that I am not a baby person, nor am I a fan of the baby stage. I wondered when my last baby turned one how I would really feel. Would there be some sadness or longing that I wasn't aware of? And honestly, there isn't. There is so much excitement because a toddler is SO fun! There is so much opening up in our little world with a non-infant that I can't even hide the excitement! I feel like we are finally out of the fog of a new baby and into our life as a FAMILY. And I'm so ready for that!

Kelsey is an amazing little girl. Quiet and watchful, yet funny and loves to perform at the same time. She is silly and feisty. She knows what she wants to do and can be a quiet little sneaky girl to make it happen!

At ONE YEAR, Kelsey is...
-Walking and running and climbing all over. She is SO incredibly physical. She can get herself downstairs and off high things. She can climb up and then go down slides. She is so coordinated!
-almost out of size 12 month clothes for good- this tall girl is almost exclusively in 18 month clothes! And she is wearing size 4 diapers still but I think those are starting to get a little snug!
-Only nursing once every few days at night... We are just about finished there. She loves her milk bottles and bottles of coconut water.
-Sleeping amazingly well. Goes down after a bottle/nursing and rocking and snuggles as I lay her in her crib (around 8ish) and sleeps until 7/8 each morning! I love her for this!
-Napping once a day, usually around 12/1230 and will go from 2-3 hours depending on the day.
-Starting to play with toys a little- and this is so cute. She will play people or animals for a little bit!
-Loving her family and still goes to babysitters/unknown people really really well.
-Really good at giving side eye when she isn't sure of what is going on. It's amazing
-Talking so much more than before. I attribute this to finally being able to hear! Yikes. Saying mama/dada/tex/ella/bang/jay/charchar/moll-moll/bubby(Gebby)/pawpaw so far (I'm sure I'm missing some, but those are her most common). She still hasn't said DaDa which is nuts to me because that's usually the first sound most babies make!
-Loves animals and wants to pet every dog and cat she sees!
-On the GO GO GO all the time. It is seriously exhausting chasing after her all day long.
-Really good at letting you know when she is not having something. Arches that back and hollers!
-A little bit of a hitter. She will get mad at one of us and hit us. We will correct and she will sometimes do it again. Then I will grab her wrist and very firmly say NO and she will hug my neck and kiss me. Ridiculous. She's a little manipulative methinks...
-A little defiant. See above example. She also has been our longest to train not to flip over the dog's water or touch the wine bottles or press the cable box. She will still test her limits on all of those. Stinker.
-The owner of 6 teeth still and working on one more for now on the bottom!
-HEALED as far as ears go! She spent April through the end of May with nonstop ear infections and fluid in her ears. She was a million antibiotics and was just miserable as all get out for two months. We spent so much time at doctors appointments. We had tubes surgery the day before her birthday and she is like a brand new children! Bless her heart! She is so happy and talking so much more! I am thrilled that she is feeling better!

We have seriously loved having her as the baby of the family. She really has a sweet little special relationship with each one of her siblings. We think the world of her and love watching her grow. Now we are excited to start on our family adventures as she gets older. I have a feeling we will be making some fun memories down the road!

Happy birthday, Kelsey! We love you!

First Day/Last Day 2016-2017

I have no clue how this entire school year has already gone by. Seriously?! I think I was so sleep deprived and just trying to keep my head above water that somehow I blinked and and it's already summer again.

I feel like the thought of summer gives me slight PTSD considering last summer I gave birth to my fourth and and hardest baby, but I am so hopeful that this summer is going to be better than ever! (And I am PRAYING)

I think of how much the kids have grown in the last year and I truly can't wrap my mind around this!

Jay has had an amazing kindergarten year. He has grown leaps and bounds not only from an educational standpoint, but from a life-lessons point of view as well. He has picked up things I wish he would never learn about (some yahoo in his class just showed him about the middle finger.. I mean, really?!), but he's also learned some very valuable things, too. I have loved watching his confidence grow, his friendships change and blossom, and his mind just take off! And it hasn't been an easy year... he has had THREE teachers! His teacher started the year pregnant, then they had one permanent sub, and then another. That much change in a kindergarten class is tough! But it didn't seem to phase him one bit!

Charley Kate has blown me away! I watched her precious, nervous, tiny self walk into school on that first day. And the last day at her program, I watched her as she stood confidently singing and smiling and clapping and dancing. I cried big tears watching her that day. It made my momma heart burst to think of that transformation. Her teachers have been incredible and she has grown in every single way. Her academics have grown and her problem-solving skills are great to see. She has made some sweet new friends that she will get to continue with into elementary. Love seeing her so happy!

Molly! Sweet Molly started off the year screaming and crying every. single. day. They literally had to climb in my car and drag her out kicking and screaming. She was terrified to leave mom and her world was upside down from a new baby. But this girl has become so incredibly confident and happy. She would march in every day and just own that classroom. She made a TON of friends and became the teacher's pet. Not only that, but she begged to stay in extended day! Who thought this girl would ever ask to stay longer?!

And sweet Kelsey. Well, she didn't go to school- ha! But she did change a TON over the course of the year! She went from a 2.5 month old to an almost 1 year old! Ack! She went from screaming and crying all the time to happy little wobbly-walking girl! I seriously sometimes can't believe we survived this year. She has been my little buddy- going everywhere with me all the time. But a little bit of freedom has come along and I feel like we are in such a great place!

What a year 2016-2017 was! I'm not going to lie, it was harder than I thought it would be... but we all survived- and are thriving!

Onto summer... I really am so excited to have all my people home again!

Molly is Three!

Good golly, Miss Molly is THREE!

I don't know how this happened. It's like it just snuck up on me! I still feel like she's my little almost two year old just toddling around with me wherever I go. But somehow, the days have gone by and she's this THREE year old little girl!

Molly makes our family so much more FUN. She has a smile and laugh and sense of humor that keeps us all going. She's silly and creative and somehow knows just how to make us laugh when we need it most. She gets away with so much more than the other kids would have... tired parents or too many kids or something. But things she says and the way she does it just seem so... funny!

Molly is morphing into this beautiful little girl. She is growing out of that toddler phase and into little-girl-hood. She's making friends of her own and starting to have her own interests. All of this is just blowing my mind because when I look at her I still see a baby.

Molly loves to play. She can play by herself or with a friend. She loves little figurines (Trolls, princesses, Barbies, Palace Pets... heck, I caught her playing family with puzzle pieces the other day! Ha!). But she has an amazing imagination and can make scenarios out of anything! I love listening to her play! She is so smart and so creative.

Molly is shy at first, but only a little. She really knows how to make you work for it- which is hilarious and frustrating all together. She is seriously so easy going. She just goes wherever we drag her and does whatever we tell her to do. She doesn't care about clothes or shoes or accessories... She just wears whatever I choose for her. It's so easy and so great!

She naps only a few times a week. She is a night owl and can hang late with the best of them! She eats so well- seriously eats pretty much anything! She loves any kind of drink and ALL desserts. That girl has a sweet tooth like her daddy!

She hates to pick up toys, has the loudest voice EVER, and is so darn stubborn. But even with all of those traits, she is still so incredibly endearing! I don't know how she does it, but she's got her dad and me just completely wrapped around her finger... even when she's refusing

I can't explain how much we absolutely love this little girl. She has always been such a fun, wonderful, easy girl. Her demeanor just draws you in.

Molly girl, we love you to the moon and back. You are such an incredible little girl. I can't wait to see where life takes you!

It's So Close!

Oh. My. Gosh.

The baby is almost a year old! Seriously, I am one month away from not having a "baby" ever again. This is mind blowing and exciting and sad all at the same time.

At the beginning of Kelsey's little life, I just never thought we'd get to 11 months. The needy baby stage seemed never ending! But now it's over and she's becoming more like a toddler and less like a baby.

At 11 months, Kelsey...
-Is wearing all size 12 month clothes and a lot of those are getting snug in the length! She is a tall girl!
-Wearing size 4 diapers
-Wearing size 4 shoes... and because she has been walking so much/so long I have put her in some harder sole shoes and she does great in them!
-Nursing about 4 times a day. About a week ago I realized, "Oh crap! I haven't started weaning Kelsey at all!" Ha! I want to go to a year, but not past that (or much past it anyway!) so I decided I better get on it. She has been taking bottles of whole milk in place of nursing sessions the past few days and has been fine! She likes whole milk (warm) and does well with it!
-Is sleeping from about 8:30-7:30. Some nights she goes down later and some mornings she sleeps later. I usually nurse her, kiss/snuggle her, lay her in her bed and she falls asleep. I almost always stay in there with her until she falls asleep. But recently, she seems to get mad and fuss if she sees me in there. So I have been sneaking out and she has had zero fussing and falls asleep very quickly. It's wonderful!
-She was doing amazing sleeping through the night for a while. But then she came into yet another ear infection and it set us back some. Grrr
-Taking one nap almost every day now. Goes down around 12/1230 (would prefer 1130!) and wakes up anywhere from 230-330
-Has had a LOT of ear infections. I don't know how many we are at now, but we will met with an ENT next week to determine next steps.. We have dealt with so many ear infections with this girl. Medicines are not working as well and we are having to get creative. (Sidenote, she does NOT do well on Cefdinir... worst medicine ever. Causes extreme fussiness and insomnia. Thankfully my doctor listens to me and trusts me... And we will never use that one again!)
-Is very good at the /b/ sound, but is finally starting to make more sounds. Ma-ma-ma-ma and da-da are two she knows. She legit tries to say Tex and Ella (not well, but you can hear it) and each of her siblings names (Mol-Mol, Tsa (Char), and Bir (JayBird)), Bebby (Gebby) and PaaaaaahPah (PawPaw). It's really stinking cute! More (signs it as well), bye-bye, ball, uh-oh (my fave!), eh-eh-eh (with a finger shake!)... She also makes a TON of animal sounds, dog, cat, rooster, elephant, tiger, sheep, horse, monkey, mouse... I'm sure there are more! I feel like she was our latest talker but she has caught on very quickly!
-Loves her blanket and pacifier and to snuggle in when she's upset. Also loves her bottle- either milk or coconut water!
-Eats pretty well! Still has definite preferences on what she likes/dislikes but definitely eats quite a bit!
-Her newest tricks are saying uh-oh and blowing kisses! Ahhhh so cute!
-Still just has the 6 teeth. I'm pretty sure she's working on some right now, but I can't tell if it's another on the bottom or if it's one of her canines on the bottom. Time will tell!
-Loves to climb. Anywhere and everywhere. She wanders and goes everywhere. She is SO hard to keep up with! Anytime we go anywhere I have to watch her like a hawk!
-Loves to dance! Will drop it like it's hot and ball up her hands into fists and just bounce. Hilarious!
-Is an observer. She watches and takes it all in and then acts. Interesting to see
-Still hasn't shown much separation anxiety. She will go to a lot of people and "talk" with them. She loves going to the church nursery!
-Has started having a total attitude and throwing little fit when she doesn't get her way. Ahhhhh it's just beginning...
-Is our toughest kid yet. She falls and gets hurt all the time and rarely fusses about it. It's amazing!
-NEVER. STOPS. EVER. No kidding. I'm exhausted. Ha!

Kelsey has become even more of a dear. We just love her to pieces and seriously cannot believe she is almost ONE! Where did the time go!?

Spring Break 2k17

We had SO much fun for Spring Break this year!

I finally felt back to my old Courtney-self and ready for an adventure! I loaded up the kids on a Sunday afternoon and drove to Dripping Springs (by myself!)! We made one pit stop in the middle of the trip there (and survived!). But all the kids did a great job in the car.

We got to my sister's house in DS and the kids were SOOO excited to see their cousins! It was a beautiful night and the kids all had a blast playing together!

The next morning we headed to the Austin Zoo- which is awesome and tiny. The weather stunk but the kids had fun. Then we went to another park and went Pokemon hunting! Jay was in heaven. My other sister and her kids arrived and the kids swam in the (semi) heated pool and played in their huge backyard.

Tuesday we went on a hike. It wasn't too bad (I had Kelsey in a backpack!) and was so worth the beautiful waterfall we got to see! The kids had a ball together. We headed back and took naps and then everyone swam and played outside some more. We launched water balloons and went hunting for crawfish in the creek. We grilled out and hung out and stayed up way too late chatting! It was just what we all needed!

We headed back Wednesday morning. The trip home was going perfectly! Every single one of the kids fell asleep at some point on the way home. We were starting to get low on gas (like 30-40 miles left) and were about 45 minutes from home. Everyone eventually woke up and I had planned on stopping when everyone woke to get gas and lunch. I pull into the gas station and grab my wallet and realize it's not there! I called my sisters in DS (my Houston sister was still there- they decided to leave a couple hours after us) to see if my wallet was there. It was left behind- along with my whole diaper bag! Ugh! It would take my sister from Houston about 2+ hours to get to me and I didn't want to attempt to make it to Houston and potentially break down on I10! But not only that, my kids (and I!) were hungry!

So I called my mom who didn't answer. I called my little sister who was in Houston visiting. She answered and I explained my issue. Without a hesitation at all, she jumped in the car with her baby and drove to meet us! While we were waiting for her, my older sisters saw there was a Whataburger app that you could load money from your credit card into your app and pay that way! Score! We headed to Whataburger across the street while we waited for my sis. My little sister got there and filled up my tank for me (and I immediately Venmo'd her- how great is technology!?). Seriously, what would I do without my sisters?! I LOOOOVE them so much!

Soooo that was the first half of the week. Eventful enough, right?!

Once we got home we headed to the rodeo the next day! It's a Houston favorite and it didn't disappoint this year! It was so much fun- and we all loved having more cousin time!

On the tram on the way over!

This little one loved the carnival part!

Josh won me this poop emoji. I was so excited!

One of the highlights from the rodeo this year was CK getting to do Mutton Bustin' (aka riding on the back of a sheep as it runs down the arena!)! Oh my gosh, she has been talking about this for a year since Jay did it! You have to be 5-6 years old and between 35-55 lbs. If you remember last year Jay was just over the weight cutoff but they let him do it anyway- which turned out to be a bust because that poor sheep couldn't carry him! Ha! So this year I knew CK was good to go... except even in all that gear she only weighed 35.4 lbs! Sheesh!

Anyway, she made the cut and got in. She was a little nervous right before (that's kind of her thing these days), but luckily Jay's best bud Wyatt had signed up to do it too! She had a blast!

The rest of the week was spent hanging out with cousins, welcoming my cousin and his girlfriend from Wisconsin, heading to the ranch, and going to church!

Kelsey is OBSESSED with trying "play with" Sadie!

These two crazies celebrating St Patty's Day!

Love this! Fishing in pearls! :)

The bluebonnets were INCREDIBLE this year!!!

Kelsey's first bluebonnets!

Our family at church!

This was a fun and crazy and nonstop spring break! It felt like we were back to our "norm" of being on the go! I loved every second of it! Even if we were all completely exhausted afterward...  Ha!
