Country Living

So we bought a place in the country. We are country folk.

Well, not really.

About mid-summer a couple from our church approached us with an opportunity to purchase a chunk of land in Bellville (a little town of about 5,000 about 45 minutes outside of Houston). We spent the day looking around, having lunch with them, and having an absolute blast as a family. Riding the gator, playing in the creek, getting dirty, feeding cows, throwing rocks in the pond... It was just perfection.

That tract of land didn't work out for us, but it definitely gave us the itch to look into some other properties. We spent the next several Saturdays driving out to the country with the kids looking at properties. Through this, we were able to see one of my best friends Jill and her family very often. They were always the perfect hosts- they would let us just drop in unexpectedly, the kids had a ball together, she fed us... it was so Jill! (I tell you, if you want to find the definition of a selfless servant, you look at Jill. She has a heart of gold and makes you feel like you are worth every second. I hope I can be more like her when I grow up!)

Anyway, we had the best time together as a family. We loved our Saturdays in the country. One Saturday we found IT. The place. It had a beautiful home, it had acreage, it was within an hour drive from our house... It was everything we wanted. And there were so many "signs" that pointed us in this direction (and you better believe we took notice of everything God sent our way!).

After about 6 weeks of negotiating, surveying, inspecting, measuring, etc... we closed on our Brenham house! It was surreal. We loaded up a trailer and truckload full of stuff the next day, and took it up.

Not only was it wonderful to be there, but the kids had a blast. Empty house, no toys, nothing to do. And you know what? That is exactly why they had a blast! They just played. Nonstop! They ran around, they fed the catfish, they explored the "woods"... they were kids in a simple time and place. Just like it should be. No distractions. Anthony and I watched this and we actually both teared up on the way home thinking what a wonderful decision this was!

Since closing we've been there four times- in 2.5 weeks!

We have no furniture. We have no silverware. We have nothing yet. But we have land and shelter (and ac!!) and we have a lifetime of memories to be made! We are so excited about this new chapter of our lives!

Molly loved cruising on the Gator!

We definitely need to work on our gator selfies!!

The kids making "sand angels" on the creek bank!

A little porch swinging!

Molly is now oficially obsessed with donkeys!

This was her reaction to seeing goats at the fair!

Jay trying shark on a stick!

At closing! It's OURS!!!!

Jay loves catching these frogs! This one is on his head!

A little porch dinner!

When in a small town, you gotta do what they do to fit in!

Obviously Tex loves it! This is him swimming in the middle of the pond!

Trampoline frame!

Feeding the catfish!

This is what we look like after our trips to the ranch!

Even Tex passes out immediately!

I'm sure this is shocking, but I was going to say pretty much the same thing as Amanda - exciting news for y'all, and great description of the kind of person Jill is!
