Stories of a Second Child...

You just sleep where you sleep when you are the second kid... And you're lucky if you get it peacefully!

Middle of the floor after a diaper change
ONLY when brother and dog are OUTSIDE!

On the floor of the bathroom while big bro takes a bath!

Ahhh... you can see why second (and third and fourth) kids are so much more relaxed...

Stepping Up

I haven't taken the time to brag on my sweet husband since Charley has been here. Anthony has been beyond amazing and he deserves a shout out at the least.

It's funny this time around. He has been so beyond helpful I don't even know where to begin. Is it because we have a little girl and he feels more inclined to help because of the bond he has with her? Is it the fact that he's more confident in his daddy-ing skills so he CAN help? Does he know more this time around of what I need? Is it because we have two kids and therefore needs to help with one or the other? I'm sure it's a combination of many things, but whatever it is, I'm so so grateful!

Anthony bounces Charley when she's fussy, he puts Jay down at night sometimes, does bath time, plays with Jay, holds CK, does the dishes/laundry/picks up toys, takes CK in the middle of the night if she's not sleeping so that I can catch a few moments of uninterrupted sleep, gets me water, runs errands... And the list goes on!

It's amazing to me how helpful he has been and I am truly beyond appreciative. People ask all the time if having two kids was what I thought it was going to be, and I can honestly answer that it's so much better than I expected. Between Charley being a great baby, Jay doing so well, and Anthony being super husband, this totally makes me want several more kids!

He has really stepped up and I'm just so in awe. I genuinely look forward to the weekends and evenings when our sweet little family is complete.

The most amazing part of it- Anthony is so wonderful and he does all of this after putting in LONG hours at work! It's no secret he works a lot. It's the nature of his job and the nature of HIM. But for him to walk in the door at night and whisk one kid away while he changes is so great. Where most dads would need that few minutes of "detox" once they got home, Anthony doesn't skip a beat! He works hard for our family all day long at work and then comes home and works hard for our family until all of our little ducks are in a row.

And you know what? Our babies notice. They love their daddy beyond comprehension. Jay can't wait to see him when he comes home, he loves their rough time together wrestling, and looks forward to when "ga-ga" gets home from work each night. Charley can't get enough- calming instantly for him, sleeping so well on him, and giving him HUGE smiles. And mommy? She loves him even more than she did before- which she wasn't sure was possible...

So thank you to our own Superman- he is certainly our hero!

The Animals Made Me Do It

It's a well-known fact that Jay is OBSESSED with his Little People animals. We have several sets from sisters, parents, gifts, hand-me-downs, etc... Now he loves all kinds of small plastic animals (not just Little People).

Every morning he wakes up and I go get him from upstairs. His routine is ALWAYS the same- he says good morning to Sunny (it's actually Tex but for some reason he calls him Sunny like my parents' Golden Retriever), runs to his drawer of pappies (and tries EACH one- seriously he goes through about 12-15... one by one), chugs a Capri Sun (have you seen Capri Sun Roaring Waters?? It's basically flavored water so I don't have to panic about the amount of sugar he gets from the juice), and then gets his basket of "ammals" off the shelf. He picks out his favorites and then plays with them. Sometimes they go on the ark, sometimes in the barn, sometimes on the table... Lately he has been finding creative ways of playing with them...

Can you see them on the candles on the table?

This was AWESOME- he was very proud!

I got a close up- notice the horse needed two so it could stand... Pretty amazing!

Sliding down his roller coaster

This was not animals but definitely deserved a spot in the post...
OCD much?

I know I've posted this picture earlier, but I think they were in trouble?
Or reading...

On top of his chair/fort

Seriously, this kid cracks me up with his new ideas. He thinks of places I would never imagine... Not pictured (and I'm ticked I didn't snap one with my phone!)- animals standing on chips at the Mexican restaurant... Each animal had one chip that they were standing on... hilarious!

The Best Trick!

Charley has just learned one of the BEST tricks (if you ask me!) a baby can learn... the SMILE!

She has been more alert lately and definitely taking it all in. She is looking around and really starting to follow things with her eyes. She is also BARELY beginning to coo- maybe once a day or so she will get her mouth in the O shape and make a noise at the same time- its pretty cute.

But last week- starting about Tuesday- she definitely smiled at me when I started talking to her and smiling at her. She did it a little more Wednesday and Thursday, and by Friday she was a pro! These pictures are from Saturday and Sunday- and definitely tonight she was working it! She will smile at anyone who talks to her in a sweet voice and smiles at her- she's not stingy!

I love this new trick and and can't believe she's growing up! So, write it down in the books- at 5 weeks (almost to the day!) she learned to smile! That is the EXACT same as her brother by the way! Funny!

Smiles for Mommy!
I am to the left side of the camera obviously :)

Big ones for Daddy!
This picture absolutely warms my heart... I can't even explain!
Can you see that her shirt says Daddy's Girl? Perfect!

 Sweet smirks after church :)

Newborn Pics!

My wonderfully talented friend Michelle took some newborn pics of Charley! She is absolutely amazing and was the sweetest thing EVER to take pictures for us while she was 9 months pregnant.

She captured some absolutely beautiful pictures- even though Charley decided she did NOT want to sleep once she was put down (shocker!). Michelle was SO patient, and spent her entire Sunday afternoon (her time with her own family) at our house trying to take pictures. She even got pooped on... She is amazing! I'm so blessed that she is not only our photographer, but one of my very very good friends! Thank you Michelle!!!

Here are a few of my very very favorites!!!!
