Not only is it a fantastic little weekend getaway, it's a FUN time to spend with friends from our church. It's hard sometimes in the hustle and bustle of Sunday mornings to chit chat with people from church. But then you have a weekend like this, and you truly get to know people. Plus, our speaker and his wife are amazing! I'm one of those people who know I will NEVER be an expert on marriage, so I know I can always learn more and get better. This was such a great recharge/reminder weekend of what marriage is all about.
One of my favorite quotes from the weekend (and it's not verbatim- sorry) was, "What if marriage was one of God's tools to get you to Heaven?" I pondered this quite a bit, and I truly believe it. I know that God created marriage for many reasons, but I honestly believe that this is one of the many parts of a good marriage. I am SO blessed to have married a man who is helping me to get to Heaven. He is constantly pushing me to be not only a better person, but a better Christian. He is our spiritual leader and takes that position very seriously. It's amazing too, because Anthony didn't grow up going to church. He has picked this up on his own, and it's amazing to see how God has worked so tremendously in his life. God has molded him to be a remarkable Christian, and I'm so thankful that He chose me to walk alongside (is that a word?) Anthony in this life.
Ok, enough sappy marriage talk.... :)
The rooms at the retreat were awesome- well, they were old and the carpet was kinda sticky (seriously- gross), but the setup was great. There was a common area with four bedrooms (hotel sized- they were big enough for private bathroom and two queen beds) off of it. Our "cottage" had us, The Robertsons (including four month old Wyatt), The McIntoshs (including four month old Norah), and The Bayles (they were kid-less this weekend!). Because of this setup, we were able to put the kids down and have fun grown up time in the common areas! It was perfect!
Jay did a great job learning how to be a good husband (ha!), but not so great otherwise. He didn't sleep well at all because he would wake up in the middle of the night, and instead of putting himself back to sleep, Mr. Alert would look around trying to figure out where the heck he was! Needless to say, sleep was hard to come by. Also, he started some "separation from Mommy" thing this weekend! WHAT?!!? I thought that wasn't supposed to come for a while!!!!!! He would SCREAM every time Anthony tried to put him down. Argh... I was not only exhausted from little sleep, but my body (my back mostly) was SO tired!
Other than these two things, he was in a GREAT mood and did his best to flirt with all the women there. He flashed that big ol' gummy grin and it was over! :)
It was a fun weekend spent with friends and making new ones. It was fun to recharge and remember what marriage is all about.
And here are a few pictures from the weekend (again, no family picture... sigh...).
Playing with Wyatt R.
Although it kind of looks like he's pinning him...
I just love these sweet hands and feet!
