Roly Poly!

So Jay rolled over for the first time over a month ago. I was so excited (and semi-disgusted because it was on the floor of the dermatologist's office- yuck!)! However, he hadn't done it since so I chalked it up to an accident. Sad.

But on Thanksgiving night in front of Anthony's family, he did it for REAL! And kept doing it over and over over and over again! He got SO GOOD at it! He goes from his back to his tummy and I think it's just about the cutest thing ever.

He was still sleeping in his bouncy seat in his crib (tried once to lay him flat on his back in his crib. He woke up an hour later and was laughing at his mobile. Yikes- and back to the bouncy seat). However, a few nights ago I went in to get him in the middle of the night for a feeding, and he had rolled over in his bouncy seat! Scary! So no more bouncy seat for that guy! It was actually pretty cute once I realized he was fine... :)

Tonight he was playing with his Daddy on the ground and was SO happy to be on his tummy. I captured a few (ok a TON) of pics! Most were on my cell phone- then I got smart and busted out the real camera! Enjoy- I could look at these forever!

Happy Happy!

This is probably my favorite! I wish it was not blurry!

Camera pics!

Love this boy!!!!

Obligatory Thanksgiving Post!

Time to do the obligatory Thanksgiving post... Not that I am not INCREDIBLY thankful for everything I have. I just think sometimes we forget to be this thankful on a daily basis!

But because it's Thanksgiving and a day to remember all that we have, here I go...

-I am beyond thankful for my precious baby. For his health, his presence, his innocence. I absolutely love everything about this child. I never knew a love like this existed. How amazing!

-I am so thankful for my wonderful husband. I couldn't imagine embarking on this journey without him! He is so helpful in so many ways. He gave me my favorite gift ever- our baby! I am so thankful that he works so hard so to provide a wonderful life for us!

-I am thankful to my parents. Not only for how wonderful they are and how much they help us, but especially for bringing me up to know Jesus. I know that I have a far greater life after this one, and it is because my parents taught me about our Savior. What an incredible thing they did for me!

-I am thankful for my family and friends. I couldn't function without each and every one of them. They have all shaped my life in some way, and I know I would be lost without them!

-My sweet pets. There is something about pets and their undying loyalty that really humbles you.

-My health and the health of those around me! This is something I take for granted. I have never been directly affected by someone with poor/failing health. For this I am so grateful.

....and so much more!

2010 has been a year of blessings for the Squillante Family! Thank you, Lord!

Three Months!

Three Months! Are you kidding me?! Where in the world has the time gone??

Jay has now officially morphed from "bump on a log" newborn to bouncing baby boy! This stage is SO MUCH FUN (ps- I know I will probably say that about each stage, so just get ready...)!

At three months, Jay:
-Rolls around on his back A LOT! He will start in one position and somehow rotate himself almost 360 degrees around. He loves to roll from his back to each side. He rolled over once, but hasn't done it since!
-Is obsessed with his feet! He LOVES those things! He found them a few weeks ago and seriously doesn't ever let go of them!
-Knows our "changing" routine with his diaper. I kid you not- each time he'll bring his little legs up, let me slide the diaper under, then straighten his legs so I can fasten it. I'm serious- and it rocks.
-Babbles and talks A LOT! I love this! He tells me stories all day long and it's just adorable!
-Has gotten himself into the "eat, play, sleep" routine. Sometimes he'll change it up a little, but usually he eats, and plays for about an hour or so, then naps, then plays some more!
-Is a HAPPY baby! He smiles like it's going out of style!
-Chuckles and laughs, but has only full out giggled once (when Daddy was stealing kisses!).
-Takes only 15 minutes to eat now (yay!!!!!!) and is only eating about every three hours (yay!!!!!!).
-Generally takes two BIG naps a day- one in the morning and one in the late afternoon.
-Still sleeps in his bouncy seat in his crib. I tried to put him flat in his crib the other night- and he woke up after an hour and was laughing/talking to his mobile and rolling around. Back to the bouncy seat.
-Has decided this past week that bottles are not for him. YIKES. We aren't giving up on that one yet! Mom needs some freedom!
-Has regressed in his sleeping (another YIKES). For about a month he was going for a good 7 hour stretch at night, one wake up to feed around 3-4, then would sleep for another 3-4 hours. Not so much anymore. He now only sleeps in 3-4 hour chunks. What the heck is up with that?!?!
-Loves to rub his feet on everything (takes after his momma!).
-Talks/smiles to himself in the mirror!
-Sucks on his upper lip when he's really hungry! I love this!
-Doesn't so much like nursing to sleep anymore (sad because that was SO EASY!) :)
-Doesn't poop 8 times a day anymore (thank goodness!), but now his little toots have become stinky (typical boy!).
-Grabs EVERYTHING. We definitely have to keep him entertained with toys. He loves all the things he can hold on to and then put directly in his mouth. He also LOVES to grab my hair. Fun times. :)

I'm sure there is more (actually, I know there is more) that I could write, but that's all I will leave you with. Jay has become SO MUCH FUN! He loves to go on little outings now, he gives good signals for when is sleepy or hungry, and is just all around a good baby. He really only fusses when he's tired (or when Daddy laces his pacifier with jalapeno- that's another story for another day- and it was on accident).

He is crazy alert and loves to take it all in. People always comment on how awake he is. He's never been the "sleep through everything" baby. He definitely wants to be part of the action. And this laying around on his back thing is NOT for him- he is ready to be moving!

I love our little routines and I LOVE how when he nurses he pulls off and smiles and talks to me.

Jay- you have made our lives SO much more complete and amazing. I love every little thing about you. Thank you Lord for giving him to us!

3 Month Picture!

Watch out Tannehill! Here comes Jay- class of 2033!

Still loves to fall asleep like this- SOOO snuggly!

Pumpkin Season!

I am lovin' all things pumpkin right now. Here are my top three pumpkin loves at the moment...

1) Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks. I just tried one for the FIRST TIME this year! Why had I not had this before?!?! It's like a little cup of heaven on earth... And they won't be here much longer. Sad.

2) Pumpkin Muffins. My sister in law, Andrea gave me this really hard recipe to make the BEST pumpkin muffins around. Oh wait, it's the best and easiest recipe I have ever seen.... You buy a box of Spice Cake mix. Buy a can of pumpkin (not sweetened, just the regular kind). Mix together (do not add ANYTHING). Bake in muffin tins for 20 minutes at about 375. The end. Oh, and they taste like a Pumpkin Spice Latte in cake form. Stinkin' delicious.

3) My pumpkin! That's what I call Jay, and he is DEFINITELY on the top of the list! :)

Scrub a Dub!

So Jay loves bath time- like a lot! My sister Jennifer gave us a cool infant tub with a little hammock thing and he LOVES laying in it! However, Mr. Man has gotten too long for the hammock, and he can't really lay in the normal tub part. He also can't sit up on his own yet, so we had a bit of quandry...

A year or so ago I saw this COOL bath tub thing on the Today Show! Jennifer saw it too and we decided whenever I have a baby I must try it! Well, fast forward about a year, and I have it! And it is PERFECT for Jay!

This new bath tub lets him sit up in the tub thing- even though he can't really sit! He also gets so excited in it that he tries to stand- and he is semi-successful since he is so light in the water! He LOVES this thing and I'm not gonna lie- looks absolutely freakin' precious in it!

Hi Mom!

I'm Cute.

The whole set up!

Makes You Think...

So here I go into a deep-thoughts post... If you don't want to read it, go ahead and stop here- it won't hurt my feelings!  :)

So I read a friend's blog this morning and it has just stayed with me today. Leah wrote this, and I have thought about it all day. It talks about how as mothers we try to be selfless by giving everything we've got to our children (and husbands too!). She says how we often put ourselves last and don't give a second thought to our needs, claiming we are "selflessly" doing so. However, she spins an interesting perspective by noting that putting our NEEDS (not wants!) last, we are actually being somewhat selfish. Honestly, read her post- she says it much more eloquently than I ever could!

But this has had me thinking all day. It is SUCH a struggle for me to leave Jay for more than 30 minutes. And I only leave him with Anthony or our families. It's even hard for me to leave him for that long. Some days I just think (ok most of the time I think) that no one can care for him like me. And like Leah says on her blog, of course our babies can be cared for by others. She talks about how we are not indispensable at all (though God has given us a ridiculously important role as their mothers), and that by taking care of our needs we are actually helping our babies and husbands and others. God is the only indispensable being. What a powerful thought.

Along those lines, our Sunday school class teacher talked about being selfish this past Sunday. And Anthony's Bible Study this morning talked about being selfish. Are you seeing a trend here? I am thinking that God is sending me a message!

As selfless as I try to be, I am absolutely selfish. In Sunday school we talked about being a servant. I thought about that. I want to be a servant. I want to serve others. I want to have a servant's heart. It certainly was easy to call myself a servant when I taught in a Title I school. I served needy children and families every day. But now that I am out of that, who do I serve?

One of the things I have realized is that I (and people in general) are just selfish beings. We don't mean to be, but we are. I love cooking dinner for Anthony each night. I love making him feel taken care of. I love when he walks in the house and asks what smells so good. I love watching him eat my hard work and go and get more. I love being able to pick up the dry cleaning for him so he doesn't have to, or do the laundry, or walk the dog or whatever it may be. I LOVE serving him that way. But I honestly can't say it just pleases me to serve him. Because what I honestly like is his reaction. I like the way it makes ME feel good to do it. I like how he enjoys what I have done. I like how he tells people that I'm a good cook, or a good wife, or a good mother. No matter how much I serve HIM, I honestly can't say I always just do it out of the goodness of my heart. Pretty selfish, huh??

So I have decided that my focus for now is to be more selfless. To be more of a servant no matter what the reaction is that I get. If Anthony forgets to tell me how good dinner is, that's ok. The point is to make HIM happy.

This is where I am so amazed at God. How can He be so loving, caring, and selfless? How can He just sit back and continue to give us what we need, and answer our prayers, when we are such self-serving, selfish beings? His love is TRULY amazing.

Ok, that is my serious blog. Congrats if you made it this far!  :)

Set Hut!

Halloween 2K10 was great! Jay was a football (of course!) and I must say, the MOST precious football I've ever seen!

It started with a Halloween playdate at the Valentine's house. Unfortunately, I took only one picture on my cell phone... Oops...

Then we had a playdate with Mrs. Michelle and Riley, and Mrs. Cari and Callie. Michelle is learning all about photography and she asked if she could "play around" and take some pictures of Jay in his costume. Of COURSE! She did a great job capturing our little football.... :)

On the actual day of Halloween we went to our church's Trunk or Treat! Jay had a great time with the nephews and Jill and seeing all of his little friends! :)

To cap off the night of Halloween, we went to Plaza Oaks Pool with Jennifer and her family for some fun! We got some cute pictures of the cousins (of course not one of them ALL together!) and saw lots of cute costumes!

Heisman Daddy with his football

Darth Vader Owen and Lucky Charms Leprachaun Josh

Wonder Woman Jill

Alien Jake and his buddy

Sleepy Pumpkin/Football with Mommy

All Halloween'd Out!!!!

Can't wait for Halloween next year! We'll actually have a trick-or-treater!! :)
