Kids Know it All...

So when it comes to babies and pregnancy, apparently kids know it all.... Three examples...

1) Last week my kids were looking at Guiness Book of World Records 2010 edition. There was a picture of Octo-Mom when she was pregnant. One of my boys (let's call him Sam) comes up to me, shows me the picture, and here is our conversation...
Sam: "Mrs. Squillante! Look at this lady! She must have a LOT of babies in there!"
Me: "Yes, she did. She actually had EIGHT babies in there!"
Sam: "Wow. Well, that means she must have had A LOT of the S-word!"
Excellent... Funny thing is- I wanted to tell him Octo-Mom had NONE of the s-word... hahahahah

2) When I announced my pregnancy to the class, the kids were PRECIOUS. They had lots of questions and lots of information. They were just adorable! Then, sweet Sam says, "Mrs. Squillante, I know how babies are made. So I know what this means." I told him that it was great information to have and then asked if he would please keep that to himself... Sheesh... I think Sam's parents MIGHT be talking to him quite a bit! :)

3) This week we were talking about how big the baby was. They are REALLY interested in EVERYTHING. Then, after a ten minute discussion, one of the kids says, "Mrs. Squillante- HOW do babies come out?" OH GEEZ... Immediately five hands SHOOT up. I told the child that is a discussion they can have at home with their parents, when another little boy (let's call him Greg) shouts out, "I know how! They come out of your butt! I saw it on National Geographic!!!!" Oh my gosh- the kids were PANICKING! And then there was arguing.. Mass chaos had broken out in my room... So, the only way to solve this problem with seven and eight year olds... I answered with, "No! That's not true at all! You actually BARF out your baby!" Well, this had them ROLLING on the floor hysterically, and then we came up with all the other ways babies could come out- out of your armpits, out of your nose when you sneezed, out of your finger tips like guns... PHEW- saved the day with DISGUSTING potty humor...

Anyway, if you aren't around kids often, I highly recommend it- they will keep you in stitches if you allow it!

Happy Friday!

Our Kumquat Tree!

Here are two pictures of the kumquat tree I have been bragging about so much...

Here it is... Hard to believe it started as a little 12 inch stem!!!!!!!

I made Tex sit in front of it so you could get an idea of how big it really is!
And compare it to the fence behind, too!

I'm so proud- can you tell?!?!   :)

I Love Kumquats!

So most of you who know me well, know that I LOOOOVE kumquats! If you don't know what they are, click here. My love for kumquats dates back to growing up with a BEAUTIFUL kumquat tree in my parents' back yard. For MANY MANY years, my sisters and mom would eat this orange fruit from the tree, and being the PICKY eater that I was, I refused. Finally, one day when no one was around (couldn't swallow my pride and show everyone that they were right for so long), I picked a kumquat and peeled it and ate it- and LOVED it! From then on I ate them all the time and loved that kumquat tree SO much!

The kumquat tree is no longer in my parents' backyard- I'm pretty sure someone was trimming it and butchered it completely and killed it. Very sad. But a few years ago when Anthony and I moved into our new house, my grandmother's best friend gave Jennifer several teeny 12 inch kumquat trees. Jennifer passed one on to me, kept one for herself (I think), and gave one to my parents. Well, just under two years later, our kumquat tree has GROWN tremendously! It's by far one of the heartiest plants in our yard, and is just GORGEOUS! Of course, I didn't know that I would be getting so sentimental in this post, so I didn't snap a picture before, but I PROMISE I will post a pic of it tomorrow!

Hopefully so far you can see how much I LOVE kumquats. Well, you can imagine my excitement when I checked to see how big our baby is now that we are 10 weeks along, and it said it's the size of a KUMQUAT! I couldn't wait to post this (which is why I'm unprepared with a picture of our lovely kumquat tree!).

Here is a picture of a kumquat so you can get a relative size of our baby...

Right now our little one is about 1 1/4 inch from crown to rump and less than a third of an ounce! Tiny little thing!! I'm still feeling pretty great- just too tired to get up and do ANYTHING these days.

So I leave you with this note today- if you haven't tried a kumquat ever- get out and EAT ONE! :)  You won't be sorry (well, you might if it's not ripe- yuck!)!   :)

You Know You're Pregnant When... (part 1)

So I have a feeling there will be several parts to this post over the next 6 1/2 months (that's all I have left?!)... And I thought it might be a little funny for some of you to laugh at how crazy being "with child" makes you sometimes (and for all you ladies that are already mothers- you can just laugh AT me because you know what I'm talking about).

Anyway, on to the post...

You Know You're Pregnant When.... you are watching the AFC Championship game and Jordin Sparks is singing the nathional anthem. As they let the eagle go and fly during the song, you start crying... and can't stop yourself...

Even though I couldn't stop crying, I could see how ridiculous the situation was. Anthony was finishing up the yard, so I run out to tell him how ridiculous I am (I keep telling myself that if I can point out when I'm being ridiculous, then the times that I CAN'T see why anything is wrong with my crazy mood swings should be forgiven instantly by Anthony). He is alway so sweet when I do this... he just kind of cocks his head sideways and gives me a cute chuckle- then he hugs me and kisses my head and tells me he loves me. I must say, I have a WONDERFUL husband who is so GREAT to his crazy pregnant wife!

Anyway, for some reason, the eagle flying around the stadium while Jordin was singing really touched me...

Stay tuned for part 2 of the saga- to be announced at an unknown date in the future (who knows, it could be today!)...

The Story...

Now for the fun part- the story!!!

Wednesday, December 16th I was driving home from school and thought, "Huh. Maybe I should grab a pregnancy test." Nothing major, no freaking out or nervousness... Just matter of fact. And honestly it's the truth. Now, if you know me well you know that I often think I'm pregnant- I SWORE I was pregnant after getting back from our honeymoon. I panicked and bought a test the day we got home! It was negative of course, but this happens every couple months for me. So once again, no big deal that I was going to buy some tests...

I brought them home, did my business, put the test on the counter and walked out. I was determined NOT to stare at it. So I set my timer for three minutes and pretty much just wandered aimlessly around the house. I came back in and for the first time ever it was POSITIVE!!!!!!!!!! Like flipping a switch the tears just started coming! What did I do next? I took another of course!! And yes, positive again! By this point I am debating- do I call Anthony and tell him that way?! He doesn't deserve that- but how do I do it?!?!

I decide to make a mall run and look through the maternity store there. I find a shirt that says "Pregnant is the New Skinny." It's precious, and perfect for what I needed it for- remember I'm telling Anthony in an hour- I couldn't run all over town! On the way home I stop and get a different brand of tests for good measure... you never know!!!

So I get home, change into the shirt, take the third test (yes, still positive), and wait. And wait. And wait. That was the longest 30 minutes of my LIFE! Anthony gets home and I don't want to BOMBARD him right away, so I ask how his day was (and don't listen at all). He rambles for a little bit (not really, but that's what it felt like to me!) and finally looks at me. He asks how my day was and I say, "Oh, it was good. By the way, I got some more Christmas shopping done." "Great," he answers totally unenthusiastically (is that a word??). "Well, I got myself a shirt while I was out." "Of course you did, honey. Let's see it." HERE IT COMES... I unzip my hoodie and display my new shirt! He stared at it for what felt like HOURS, and then his eyes got HUGE and he asked, "Are you serious?!?!?!?!?!"  I replied by pulling a pregnancy test out of my pocket! He said some things like, "No way! Are you kidding? Oh my gosh!" Then of course I start crying and we hug and kiss and hug and kiss and then he pushes me away and asks again if I'm serious... It was SO MUCH FUN!!!!!
Both brands of tests!

Here we are with one of our tests!

We had so much fun eating dinner and slightly freaking out that night (and the next and the next). The next morning I woke up and panicked that it wasn't real, so what did I do? I took that fourth test! And once again... POSITIVE!  :)

Now on to telling our families and some friends...

We both brainstormed the best way to tell everyone... Finally we came up with an idea that we BOTH loved! We wrapped this up for Christmas and gave it to our families.. We told them we had a movie for them but it didn't technically come out until August!

This was so fun!!! We had SOOOO much fun telling everyone and seeing their reactions! It's been SOOOO hard keeping it a secret from our work people and other friends, so after we went to the doctor on Monday we were just about ready to burst!!!

Yay for Baby S!!!!   :)

Best Day Ever!

.... and baby makes THREE!

That's right!!!!!! Here is our first picture of Sweet Baby Squillante- due August 24, 2010!!!!!!

We are SO excited to announce this news! We had our first doctor's appointment yesterday and I can honestly say it was one of the best days of our lives. Watching our little baby on the screen, holding hands with tears running down our faces was an experience like no other. After our appointment, Anthony dropped me off with my mom who took me shopping for my soon-to-be growing waistline. It was SUCH a wonderful day and I'm so lucky to be surrounded by such loving people!

I am 9 weeks along and feeling mostly great. I'm SUPER tired and smells are driving me nuts- but I would consider myself REALLY lucky after talking to other mommies.

You will definitely hear LOTS more stories coming shortly... I will be posting on how we found out, how I told Anthony, and how we told our family and friends.

But for now, I leave you with our good news- we were so excited to share it!!

Tex the Snuggler?

Tex does a LOT of things that I absolutely love. But this post is about one of my VERY favorite things that he does.

When Anthony leaves in the morning, I am still in bed. Tex jumps on the bed and assumes his role as second man of the house! He lays RIGHT on Anthony's pillow. If you have met Tex you know he is still in his puppy stage, so he's still pretty hyper. He's not much of a snuggler because he wants to play and for you to pet him. So I LOVE this time of our day together because he's still so tired and it's like he's getting up on the bed to protect me out of obligation to Anthony (I'm sure none of this actually goes through his mind, but I like to pretend it does!). This is also VERY amusing because Tex is not actually allowed on the bed at all- so as soon as dad leaves he gets to jump on the bed and take over!

This was him yesterday morning. I LOVE this dog!!! Please notice how he is even under the covers!!!

Bubble Blowing Stud

So I am going to take today's blog post to brag about myself. Just get ready.

Have you even blown a bubble with bubblegum inside of another bubble? Well, I asked my class the same question yesterday and most could not do this. I took it upon myself to show them what I meant using ONE piece of Double Bubble (I LOVE that gum and our lounge is stocked with it!!!). I did it and they were so impressed. Then, I did FOUR! They were really impressed and so was I!

After a couple minutes of celebrating my FOUR, one asked me to try and make as many as I could... Well, FOURTEEN bubbles later, the gum popped on my face and my kids were cheering as loud as they could! Yes, that's right FOURTEEN BUBBLES within BUBBLES!

I ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS- This was during math. I feel very confident that when my kids' parents asked them what they learned at school yesterday, this was the answer given. Oops!

PPS (or PSS?)- I checked the Guiness Book of World Records feeling very confident that this was some sort of a record... I can't find it. Maybe this will be my new calling!

I Thought of Something!

I can't believe I didn't think about this to write about! The return of all our TV shows!!! I guess it really hit me last night while watching Season 1,000,000 of The Bachelor.

Yes, I said it- make fun of me all you want... but I LOVE this show. Jake is a dork and half of the girls are head cases and half are totally boring, but I do love it and yes, I will watch the whole season (with Anthony!).

Making it's debut tonight is American Idol! I CANNOT wait to see Ellen on it (though let's be honest, her ability to figure out how "pitchy" things are might be a little off), and all the crazies who parade themselves around! The spring really makes it hard on us with our TV watching schedule though... American Idol is on every night (well T, W, Th) and conflicts with a LOT of TV shows that we watch throughout the year (I'll get to those in a minute). So we use that wonderful DVR and end up watching EVERYTHING! Anyway, we are excited for the return of American Idol!

Tuesday night is ALSO 90210 night. Anthony and I both LOVE this show!!!!!! I think it kind of takes us back to Dawson's Creek days... Gotta love the high school drama! And it also might have something to do with the fact that I wasn't allowed to watch the real one growing up... regardless, we are so excited it is back on tonight!

Wednesday nights are Modern Family and Cougar Town. I freakin' LOVE Modern Family! It could be one of my all time favorite shows. The one-liners from there are awesome!

And then Thursday night- Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice!

From my list you can tell a few things...
A) We love our TV shows and are "that" couple that watches a ridiculous amount of shows religiously.
B) Our shows are not deep nor are they award-winning... They are silly, raunchy, light-hearted shows that make us laugh (or make me cry) and that we are addicted to. Judge if you will. We don't care. :)
C) Fill in your own assumption here....

Anyway, I TOTALLY forgot to blog about this yesterday and it was WELL worth it!

Writer's Block

I am having such writer's block right now. I just feel like I have absolutely nothing to blog about...

Last weekend was busy yet uneventful. The weeks at school go by in a pretty mundane routine...

The best thing for me to write about is the fact that it's actually starting to get a LITTLE warmer in Houston! I know it seems silly, but if I wanted to live in a place where it is routinely 20-30 degrees then I would move north! I live in Houston- it's supposed to warm and muggy. Don't even get me started with this dry weather that causes my hair to do OUT OF CONTROL static things! I haven't worn my hair down in about two weeks! Sheesh!

Anyway, that's about it for now... Oh, and please don't take this post as complaining at all! With all the craziness of holidays and the world in general, this down time has been a great relief....

More to come later (hopefully!)...   :)

Frosty Family

I know, I know- I've been a BAD blogger over the holidays! But the last thing I have wanted to do was sit in front of a computer and type up everything that had been going on... Alas, I'm at work, and ha- now I have time to do it!! :)

So Anthony and I headed to Iowa for our first Christmas Eve and Christmas Day up there together! If you had a TV on at ALL over the break, then you saw the weather in that area- COLD AND SNOWY. I don't mean pretty snowflakes and beautiful blue sky. I mean gray skies, TONS of snow and ice, and just miserable weather. It's a good thing the company was so great! :)

We had an absolute wonderful time with Anthony's family. I am just so lucky to have such great in-laws! We got to see the cousins, aunts and uncles, and everyone in between. We had so much fun as always!

Family in the snow!

And then, on Christmas Eve, the storm started coming through. We actually lost power at Anthony's grandmother's house for a while. It eventually came back on. Christmas morning we woke up and saw what Santa brought us. We exchanged presents and had yummy breakfast casserole. Then we geared up for our flight to Omaha. Except we couldn't get to Omaha to fly out. The highways were FROZEN! So we headed to the Des Moines airport (only 30 miles as opposed to 100) and waited on the standby flight out that night. Disclaimer- it's AWESOME flying into DSM because it's a straight shot from Houston and it's closer to Grandma Peggy's house. HOWEVER, there are only TWO Continental flights out a day and they are always booked.

Needless to say, we didn't make the standby flight that night. Oh but good news- our LUGGAGE did!!!! So yes, while our luggage was at home in warm(er) Houston, we are still freezing (and now dirty!) in Des Moines! Woo! Anthony's sweet cousin Rob and his girlfriend Jenn took us in for the night. They picked us up at the airport, took us to Jenn's family Christmas dinner (soooo delicious and just the nicest thing ever!), gave us PJ's, toothbrushes, and the works, and then drove us to the airport at 5:45 the next morning to get on another standby flight.

Once we got to the airport, they told us there was a REALLY good chance of us getting on this flight. It's a good thing, because if we didn't we would have to fly standby again Saturday night. The first OPEN flight out was Monday morning- ACK!!

I'll spare you the HORRIBLY boring details of sitting in the TINY Des Moines airport and jump straight to the part where- WE DIDN'T GET ON. Needless to say the tears started flowing! I was dirty, tired, cold, and ready to see my dog and cat (oh, and my family of course!)! I guess the tears worked because the poor people working there put us on an American Airlines flight through Dallas and got us home at 3!!!! And PRAISE JESUS our luggage was there!!

We got home and exchanged presents with my wonderful family. It was so great to be home and see everyone- I missed them terribly!

The rest of the break was spent hanging out, relaxing, and playing LOTS of Super Mario on Wii!

New Year's Eve, Anthony, Michelle, Scott, and I went to the Rockets/Mavs game. It was a FANTASTIC game party because the Rockets won (I love winning against the Mavs!) and because we had great seats!

Then, the four of us went to see Eli Young Band play at the Verizon Theater downtown. I LOVE EYB! And we had fun DESPITE the fact that we were the oldest people there! I'm not kidding- Ant and I felt like old fogies! :)  PS- Pictures from that still to come!

Overall the holidays were an amazing break from everything. It gave us the chance to recharge and spend lots of quality time with our wonderful families!
