Wise Beyond Their Years....

So, I had my third grade students fill in the blanks to the end of famous sayings. I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry at some of the responses I got. I tried to pick the cutest/funniest/best of each saying. Some I just couldn't narrow down. These are priceles...

Strike while the….. ball is coming.

Never underestimate the power of… God.
Never underestimate the power of…. a plug or you will get shocked.

You can lead a horse to water but…. you will probably get water on you.

Don’t bite the hand…. because it might have germs.

No news is…. because the TV isn’t on.

A miss is as good as a…. Mr.

You can’t teach an old dog…. because it can’t move that good anymore.

If you lie down with dogs, you…. will be kissed on the face.
If you lie down with dogs, you…. will get hair on you.

Love all, trust…. your family.
Love all, trust… your parents.

The pen is mightier than…. a highlighter.

An idle mind is…. not smart

Where there’s smoke, there’s…. my mom cooking.
Where there’s smoke, there’s…. fire alarms.

Happy is the bride who…. you love.

A penny saved is…. a lucky penny.

Two is company, three’s…. a meeting
Two is company, three’s… too much

Children should be seen and not…. seen after 6:30

If at first you don’t succeed…. I will do it.

When the blind leads the blind…. they bump into everything

Laugh and the whole world laughs with you. Cry and…. it’s because you’re grounded
Laugh and the whole world laughs with you. Cry and… the whole world laughs AT you.

Happy Wednesday!

Memorial Day Fun!

First of all, I would like to start by thanking all the incredible men and women who have served to make this weekend (and each and every day) possible. We are so blessed to have so many incredible citizens fighting for our freedom everyday. Thank you to those who have served, those who will serve, and those who support the ones that serve.

Now, on to the weekend's festivities...

So Friday night started off MDW with a fun boot camp (yeah right!). But it was a TEENY bit more fun because Michelle came with me. In true Casey fashion, he wanted to break her down! She was the newcomer, and he always picks on the newcomers! Poor Michelle. She did GREAT of course! She was sore for the next two days and I don't know if she's forgiven me yet... haha

Saturday morning we got up and drove to Austin to meet the rest of the fam at Kiki and Aaron's. We had the two dogs (Tex and Sunny). As we were getting into Austin, Sunny laid across the back seat of my car. Tex sat on her back and it was adorable. I make Anthony look, and as I'm getting my camera to take a picture I hear tires screeching and plastic and metal crunching. Yikes. Our MDW started off with a bang! hahaha

Luckily no one was seriously hurt. Since I was bending down looking in my purse I hit my head on the dashboard. A little knot and a headache, but I'm fine! And the car is still drivable (well, you can't really open the driver's side door very much) so we were SUPER blessed!

We finally got to Kiki and Aaron's where we met the fam. It was a fun day of swimming in their pool at their new house! What a great day!

Anthony and Jill

I promise, Jill loves the dogs! I'm not torturing her!

Can you tell we love our niece?!

It was ridiculously hard to get this picture taken!
This was the best shot we got!

Sisters...

Dogs swimming

Saturday night Aaron and Kiki grilled out some DELICIOUS food! We ate way too much and then conked out! Playing with little kids all day is hard work! :)

After yummy breakfast tacos Sunday morning we headed out to Uncle J and Aunt Lory's new lakehouse! They are almost finished with their house on Lake Dunlap in New Braunfels! It is GORGEOUS! I'm just so impressed! We always have a great time out there. Tex was in HEAVEN swimming in the lake and running around like crazy. We took the pontoon boat out and it was great. It was a perfect day to be outdoors.

Group on the pontoon boat
Jill in her too big life jacket!

Monday, Anthony and I got some stuff done around the house and then laid out at our pool. We needed some time to rest up for the week ahead. Monday night Anthony and Michelle BOTH came to boot camp with me! Casey totally laid off Michelle this time, but picked on Anthony! Since Anthony was the only guy tonight (and since he's in great shape) Casey made it his goal to make Anthony miserable. Ant did AMAZING! It was so fun having them there with me! I wish they would both come every time! Laughing behind Casey's back with friends makes it that much more fun!

We watched The Bachelorette last night- don't even get me started on some of the weirdos! What is with all the crazy Texas guys?! Sheesh!

Anyway, back to school today! I'm packing up and getting ready for the end of the year! Can't believe we only have 7 days left!!

Sweet Husband

My wonderful husband just came up to school and surprised the kids and me! What a treat!

My kids LOOOOVE to hear stories about him, and since he's so busy with work he rarely gets to come visit. So when he does it's extra special!

Thanks for the special treat, Ant! :)

Wow!

How great was American Idol last night?! Wow!

Every performance was amazing! The people at Fox really did a great job- this was by far my favorite AI that I have ever watched! I thought the Black Eyed Peas performance was awesome! Nick Mitchell (or Norm Gentle!) was hilarious- I loved watching him in the beginning of the season! Anoop and Jason Mraz were awesome- I love Anoop Dog! Kiss and Adam Lambert- that was incredible! I loved Steve Martin's song, and Matt singing with Carlos Santana was adorable- I love him!! Lionel and Danny, Queen- I mean, it was a fabulous show!

BUT, the BEST part of the whole show for me (even better than Kris winning- yay!) was when Kara busted out over BIKINI GIRL! Oh my gosh- that made my year!! I can't STAND bikini girl! I mean, how high are you on yourself to wear a bikini to an audition?! Don't you want to show some REAL talent? And then putting Kara down in the first round? No no no. So when she sang and acted like she was hot stuff, and Kara came out and sang OVER her- CLASSIC. I loved it. I rewound my DVR and watched it a couple times- mainly for the chance to watch bikini girl look Kara up and down at the end! And by the way, Kara- nice abs! You go girl!!

I am so glad that Kris won. I really did like him a lot. I will admit- Adam is definitely a better performer, singer, stage presence, etc... But the tongue while he sang and the manliner- just not for me. Plus, he'll get a record deal (he probably already got one after last night!). He'll be fine and he became more likable to me over the course of the season. But Kris- he was one that come from no where. He had no formal stage training like Adam. He's just a good ol' boy from Arkansas who stayed humble and true to himself. Good for you, Kris!

Fox did a great job with the show last night- I've already sworn to my mother that she will have to sit and watch it with me- maybe Michelle, too!!

I LOVE Reality TV!

First up, American Idol....

I love Kris. I think he's precious and should be our next American Idol. I dialed his number WAY TOO MANY times on my phone last night (I am embarassed to actually tell how many), and only got through 9 times. I figured this is a GREAT sign!

You know I will DEFINITELY be tuned in tonight to find out. I'm SOOOO afraid that Adam will win! I mean, he's a great singer, just NOT my style. That screaming and weird tongue thing he does really freaks me out. Blech.

By the way, the final song for the winner that Kara co-wrote... HORRIBLE. I mean, that was just awful! Maybe Kris shouldn't win so he doesn't have to release that junk!

Second up, The Bachelorette...

I haven't watched it yet!!! I'm waiting until tomorrow night to watch and I'm DYING! I LOVE Jillian and can't wait to see how the season goes. Yes, I realize I'm one of 5 people that still watches the The Bachelor/Bachelorette shows, but I love them and will be the very last one watching!

Oh. My. Tired.

How tired can one person be?!

I wanted to post about my SECOND and THIRD days of boot camp. Friday was our second session. Sweet Casey had us start by running 2 1/2 miles. Yes, START with that. Now, I don't run 2 1/2 miles ever. Knowing this, imagine me chugging away trying to run 2 1/2 miles with a weighted pole on my back, UP and DOWN hills! Yikes! So I worked super hard and was the second person finished (yes I did walk some, let's be honest....). I was so proud of myself and nearly at the pass-out stage, but I did it! Time for a rest. Well, my darling Casey had other plans. The first three of us that finished had 40 seconds to get water. Then, he made us do up/down/jumps (you lay down on your stomach, push yourself up to standing, then jump- over and over and over) until the VERY LAST person finished their run! Um yeah, just so you know the last person finished somewhere in the vicinity of 12-14 minutes AFTER I was finished. 12-14 minutes of up/down/jumps. Good times...

So I'm near exhaustion that night, and starving to death. I wanted to eat everything in sight! Guess that shows my metabolism is in full force! Yay! Anyway, Anthony and I ate at a yummy new Pan Asian Bistro. It was so good!

The weekend flew by as it always does! We did some shopping, went to a wedding shower for a sweet friend of mine, took Tex to the dog park, and a birthday party at Dave and Busters on Sunday! It was a fun, semi-relaxing weekend!

Insert Monday. I'm just exhausted. From life. haha No, but really, I was beat. So I took a half day and used that to rest up and lay outside and read on the most perfect day of the year! I'm pretty sure it was about 74 outside and not a cloud in the sky! Insane weather by Houston standards! But, I dragged my booty off the couch and made myself go to boot camp- Casey has that strange effect on you...

The cardio part of this wasn't too bad. The legs weren't too bad. It was the stinkin' arms! Oh my gosh! As I'm typing this now, I'm pretty sure there is a good chance of them falling off. It was so hard to drive home (I had to rest them on something) and washing my hair was a joke! We worked our arms out so hard and in between reps of this and that he actually tried to make us do push ups. My arms seriously collapsed under me! I am pretty sure EVERY person had the same thing happen to them. During a particulary tough exercise, I just closed my eyes and pictured my NEW, FANTASTIC arms laying out on the beach in the Bahamas (countdown about 5 weeks!). This somehow helped me get through!

Boot camp was pretty tiring last night. Two women even puked. Awesome.

I'm Going to Break You

These are the famous words uttered my new friend, Casey... He called last night to check on me and talk about nutrition. He asked how I was feeling the first day after boot camp... I told him sore, but great! He then replied, "Well, Cotney, good that you are sore. But I am going to break you, Cotney. I am going to break you down." Awesome. Looking forward to it, Casey! :)

On another note, my precious nephew Owen had his hair buzzed off... Look at this precious picture!

How cute is that?! Oh my gosh, I stinkin' LOOOOOVE it!

Today is Field Day at school... In other words- day of CHAOS! It's been fun, but I am going to need a nap before Boot Camp tonight!

Glad today is Friday- I'm DEFINITELY looking forward to the weekend! Have a good one!

Casey, I Love You...

.... but I am sore!!! Wow!

So bootcamp last night- let me preface by saying it was AWESOME! I highly recommend this for ANYONE living in the Houston area- they have them all over! However, I show up and they take measurements of all my body parts- YIKES! Then they write down my height and weight and then take my BMI and Body Fat Percentage. Fun start, right? Well, I figure in four weeks all of those numbers HAVE to be a LITTLE bit better, right?!

Anyway, then we line up on our mats. There are about twenty people in our class, and Casey is our instructor. He seemed so sweet on the phone... then he got the whistle out! We start with him shouting at us, "Stand up, sit down, stand up, sit down. On your back, on your stomach. Stand up. On your back, on your stomach..." You get the picture! We proceed to do sit ups, push ups, high knees, jumping jacks, and squat jumps until I feel like I will collapse from the jelly feelings that my legs have now become. The good thing about this program is he pushes each person to what they can do (or actually a little more than they can do!). For instance, I am probably the second most in shape person there. I'm thinking, this won't be so bad... not the case. Casey targets EACH person individually. Sweet, right? HA!

So, my squat jumps by the third/fourth round weren't as great as before. This was NOT ok for Casey. He grabs my shoulders, pushes me DOWN to the ground, then has me jump as high as I can while screaming in my face, "Come on Cotney (yes, he has a thick accent), you can jump higha!" ACK! All of this and my watch only says 6:14- 46 more minutes of this?!?!?!

Then we take a "RECOVERY JOG" around the parking lot- are you kidding me?! We finally get our first water break at 6:32! After that we get the weighted poles and start all kinds of "fun" stuff... Apparently my arms weren't going as high as he would like, so he stood in my face telling me to COME ON COTNEY! I have never worked my traps in my life. I can't even shrug my shoulders this morning! haha

Another water break at 6:48, and we end with crunches. Nice, relaxing crunches? Absolutely NOT! This one I was decent at- he actually gave me a THUMBS UP instead of yelling at me! Woo! But the very last set- in all my exhaustion- he decides to focus on me... He wants my scissor kicks to be the biggest yet- each foot all the way to the ground and all the way up (straight legs of course!). Now, the first set of these, they looked pretty good. After 12 continuous minutes of ab work, they are pretty pathetic. But Casey won't let you down- he stood right by me and made me touch his hands with each leg...

Although I am mostly complaining, this really was AWESOME! Just what I needed to kick my butt into gear! The website is http://fitnessbootcamp4u.com/ and you should check it out. Yes, my instructor is the guy in the top left corner who started this fine program. Even though I am ridiculously sore, I am ready for my next class TOMORROW! I'm anxious to see what Sweet-Voice Casey has in store for us then...

Drop and Give Me....

Alright, so tonight I begin BOOT CAMP! Ack! I heard about this from a friend and decided I needed something to get my BUTT in gear- it's time to get serious! I have been completely unmotivated to work out, and I thought this would do the trick! I mean, who isn't motivated having some HUGE military guy screaming at you to drop and give him 20 then get up and run around?! What was I thinking?!?! Yikes!

Stay tuned tomorrow for an update on how stinkin' sore I am!

All About Tex!

So I promised I would do this- an all-about-Tex post! Since Mother's Day was yesterday and I am Tex's mother, I thought I would post some pictures of my wonderful child! As you can see, he is my life. Well, Anthony is obviously the most important thing in my life (though he sometimes questions that ranking). Anyway.... back to Tex! He is 14 months old and a bundle of joy. He is learning to be quite the gentleman. He now walks like a PRO on his leash without pulling (yay!), is SUCH a gentleman when it comes to feeding time (always waits!), and the most snuggly thing ever! He LOVES my niece and nephews more than anything and his best pal is Sunny- my parents golden! Tex's favorite weekend activity is going to GranDeb's house and playing at the dog park with all his new friends! Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure! :)

The first day I met this sweet boy- 4 weeks old!

Sweet Tex at 6 weeks old!

After his surgery for an OCD lesion. Basically, he tore some cartilege (sp?) in his ankle. Poor baby! Look at the shaved legs and arm! He is about 6 months old here.

At our friends' house, the Philbecks, in College Station. About 7 months here...

At his first birthday party! Happy Birthday, Tex!

In Case You Haven't Heard....

I got a new job!!!

I am the newest 2nd grade teacher at Rummel Creek Elementary! I begin in August and am soooo excited!

This is significant because two of my sweet nephews will be at this school next year! Jake is already there in second grade and Josh will be a BIG kindergartener next year! Here are the boys at Disney World last week!
The teachers that I have met already are incredible, and the principal and administration seem awesome. I am sooo sad to be leaving my school, but it's time for a change. I will miss these kids more than I can explain, and not having my friends around at my new school will be so rough! But I have prayed countless hours over this and I do believe that God thinks I'm ready for a new challenge! Thank you to EVERYONE for their prayers through this process. It has been a LONG, hard decision and I am so grateful for the path that God has shown me!

On ANOTHER note, I mentioned in my first blog that I got new running shoes for my birthday. PS- I LOOOOOVE them! I ran a little in them on Monday and decided that they ROCKED, but then I really ran in them last night. I'm OBSESSED! These are the MOST comfortable things EVER! And my running posture is so much better! There are muscles that haven't been sore in years (I obviously wasn't running correctly! ha). Anyway, they are awesome and I HIGHLY recommend them!

We were also so lucky to have a visitor at our house last night! Anthony's Dad gets to come in almost once a month for work in Houston, and we LOVE having him in town! He's a SUPER easy houseguest! Now all we have to do is convince Brenda to start coming with him! :)

Oh, also, we are getting a doggy-door for Tex (in case you don't know our dog Tex, there is going to be a post ALL ABOUT HIM very soon- he is my obsession!). We ordered it and are so excited to have it come in and get installed by Luis (we love you Luis!!!!). I'm really excited to get this because he LOVES to be outside, but when it rains there is no shelter for him to escape. This is a perfect solution! And, since he spends a lot of time outside, I wanted him to have some friends while we're gone. SOOOO, yesterday I bought a BIRD FEEDER! I figure this will attract LOTS of friends for him to hang out with! Yes, you might think I'm crazy to give my dog bird friends, but like I said before- he's my baby! Here is a little preview of him to curb your anxiety on my future Tex post....

I stinkin' LOVE this video! Our principal sent it to us yesterday, and I think it's a WONDERFUL tribute for Mother's Day! PRECIOUS!

video

Ok, I think that is enough randomness for the day... I told you, I've got nothing exciting... Just the ins and outs of our daily life... As Ruffino says, Peace, Love, and Crabs... :)

Yummy Recipe!

So last night I made a YUMMY dinner (if I do say so myself!). I got the recipe from Cooking Light, one of my FAVE magazines (thanks Kiki and Aaron for the subscription!!!), but tweaked it to better suit us! I thought I would share because I always need new ideas for dinner. I LOVE getting recipes! Does that make me old??
Wok-Stirred Noodles
Ingredients:
1 pkg. Shanghai or long egg noodles
2 Tbsp canola oil
1 Tbsp minced garlic
1 Tbsp minced ginger
½ C chopped onions
½ C chopped mushrooms
½ C chopped asparagus
1 C pre-cooked shredded chicken (marinated in Teriyaki)
½ C Chinese rice wine (or regular cooking wine)
½ tsp salt
½ tsp pepper
1 C vegetable stock
1 Tbsp rice vinegar

Directions:
Prepare noodles according to package and set aside.
Heat oil in large wok or nonstick skillet over med-high heat. Add garlic, ginger, onions, mushrooms, and asparagus. Stir fry until onions and asparagus are tender. Stir in chicken, wine, salt, and pepper. Cook about 1 minute until liquid evaporates. Add 1 C vegetable stock. Stir until heated through. Add noodles to pan and toss to combine. Remove from heat and drizzle rice vinegar. Toss to combine and serve!
It really is a YUMMY recipe! And I served it with baked asparagus (drizzle olive oil over asparagus- top with freshly ground salt and pepper- bake in preheated 400 oven for 8 minutes- remove and top with sprinkles of mozzarella cheese). Enjoy!

Quick Trip

So, we went to Iowa this weekend for Anthony's cousin's wedding. The weather was perfect (low 48- a little chilly for me!- and highs of 68), the travel was relatively easy, and the people were great! We definitely don't get to see Anthony's Iowa family nearly as much as we'd like, so it was a good time hanging out with everyone.

We flew into Kansas City and met Andrea and her new husband Mike (still weird calling him her husband!) at the airport there. We all drove to Dexter, IA together- about 3 1/2 hours. Dexter is the TEENIEST town I've ever stayed in. No traffic lights in the town, and I'm pretty sure there are less than 5 stop signs! It's adorable and the people are always so wonderful. There is one restaurant/bar/hangout spot in the town called The Rusty Duck. Those people are always sooo sweet when we come in town! Anthony's cousin Rob came and met us and we had a good time catching up.

Saturday we went to Mary's house and saw her vegetable gardens and her vineyard. She is quite the do-it-yourself woman and it was fun to see her projects! Anthony's sweet grandmother Peggy let us stay with her. Between Peggy and Brenda, we are always taken care of when we come in town!

Saturday afternoon was the reason we came in town- Megan's wedding! She was a beautiful bride and we are so happy for her and Joel! Unfortunately, they had to postpone their honeymoon to Mexico due to the Swine Flu and the craziness around there right now. But they will be going later this year! The wedding was perfect and a great place to reconnect with family. Here are some pics from the afternoon...

Sunday we came home and had to tell Michelle and Scott goodbye! :( They are off to California. It was sooo good having them, but way too short! We did get to welcome the Hylands back from Disney World, though! I missed my nephews and sweet niece!

Happy Monday to all!

Wow!

All I have to say is wow! Thank you to EVERYONE who made my big day so special! All of the cards, texts, calls, gifts, and notes made this birthday perfect! I have the BEST family and friends- thank you thank you thank you!!

So after my wonderful morning, my mom, Michelle, and Scott came up to my school for my annual birthday pizza party! However, it wasn't just any pizza party- they brought Tex, too! My kids have been BEGGING to see him all year (I only talk about him 5 times a day!), and they LOVED him! Here are some pics of our CRAZY day...

As you can see, it was a great time for EVERYONE- especially Tex!

After school, I needed a power nap- I was BEAT. My mom and I got a birthday pedicure which was wonderful! Then, she gave me my present from them- a gorgeous purse!! I just LOOOVE it!
After hanging out with her, I met Anthony for dinner at one of my FAVE places- Chuy's! Their creamy jalapeno dip is to die for- seriously. It was soo good! And when I came home, my wonderful husband brought me these gorgeous roses! How sweet!
As I said before, it was just a wonderful day! I am so blessed!
So, this weekend we are headed to Iowa to see some of Anthony's family. His cousin, Megan, is getting married this weekend. We will get to see the whole Wells family! Anthony's grandma, Peggy, lives in a TINY town 30 miles west of Des Moines in Dexter, IA. There are no stoplights in the town- it's adorable! We are so excited to spend some time with them- I will be posting major pics after this weekend! Since our flight leaves early this afternoon, it was only natural to take the day off from work today! :)
Hope everyone has a great weekend! I know we will!
