Happy Birthday, Anthony

Happy Birthday to my WONDERFUL husband, Anthony!

I honestly could not have asked for a better man to be my husband. He is everything I have ever dreamed of in a mate. I thank God everyday for bringing us together and blessing us so greatly.

Happy 28th birthday, honey- I love you more than I can ever explain!

The Blind Side

The next movie you HAVE to see- The Blind Side!

We saw it this weekend, and it has now earned it's place in my Top 5 All Time Favorite Movies. This is an amazing movie with an incredible message (and based on a TRUE story!).

You can see the trailer and information here...

A homeless black kid from the projects (Michael Oher) is taken in as a charity case by an upscale private (all white) school (the "charity" is actually being wanted for his size and athletic ability). As the movie goes along and shows the horrible conditions this poor child is living in, a southern family takes him in and considers him one of their own. As the movie progresses, his intelligence and athletic ability improve tremendously and he becomes a first round NFL draft pick. His new family is there on this enormous day and celebrates and cheers like any other family would.

This is an inspirational story that shows true love really does exist. As I watched I couldn't help but think of my old students and how similar their lives are to this kid- broken family, drug abuse, not seeing or knowing siblings, one set of clothes, sleeping wherever it was warm, being ridiculed by teachers, etc... I could think of specific kids from my past four years of teaching who mirrored this story in one way or another, and it just broke my heart. I honestly believe I did all that I could at the time for those kids, but I can't help wondering where so many of them are today. I can only hope and pray for them, and know that if each of us continue to help one person in a tiny way, what an impact it will make on so many lives.

I highly recommend this movie to EVERYONE- it will melt your heart and make you want to go out and do something good... I PROMISE, you won't be sorry!

PS- Sandra Bullock was AMAZING in the movie! She reminds me of a lot of sassy southern women... This is by far her best movie!

PPS- Get your tissues- I'm pretty sure I cried through 90% of the movie. It's just so touching! Disclaimer- it's not a "tear jerker" movie, I just cry at things like this! :)

Congratulations Michelle!

What an honor!!!

Thanks to everyone who voted... Michelle totally deserves this award!

And I think the Round Top-Carmine people told their entire towns to vote- 5/8 girls on the first team from a 1A school?!!?  Love the small towns, but c'mon... (enough venting!)

Yay for Michelle!

It's Monday!

Oh my gosh, so after complaining of nothing to blog about, I come to school for an hour and already have two hysterical stories!

#1) My kids are spread out all over the room working on spelling words. I hear conversations that are totally off topic 90% of the time, but as long as they are working, I'm ok with that (this is coming from a perpetual talker)... HOWEVER, this morning it's a little different conversation... I overhear a boy say, "My big brother has hair around his privates." I jump up and say, "What did you say??!" He replied, "I said my brother has hair around his privates (now giggling hysterically)." All of a sudden another boy on the OTHER side of the room says, "I bet you never heard THAT at school before."     He is right. Wow.

#2) ANOTHER set of boys working on spelling words (you can always count on boys for good stories) is talking about their words. This particular group of boys are in a lower spelling group- hence they don't read their words very well. One of the boys runs up to me and says, "Mrs. Squillante! One of ****'s spelling words is TURD this week!"  I think- OHMYGOSH- did I type them wrong?! These parents are going to MURDER me! I ask them to bring me the word in question and it is in fact NOT TURD, but TIRED.... ahhhh....

It's 9:15- I think I need more coffee already!

Busy, but not blog-worthy...

Have you ever had one of those weeks (or two in a row to be exact) where you are incredibly busy but for some reason there's nothing of HUGE importance or signifcance going on?

Well, that's been me the last two weeks (ie- nothing to blog about)... Not that there hasn't been wonderfully exciting things going on- Andy came in town, Michelle came in town (neither are boring!), Jill had her first birthday (can't believe she's that old!), Michelle and Scott's sweet friends stayed with us, dinner with Mom and Michelle Monday night, I went to the SHS volleyball game on Tuesday (Stratford, oh Stratford, forever we'll honor you), and we had the Medina Children's Home dinner last night with Auntie Karen and Uncle Steve.

Like I said, I could blog about the little things, but most of the excitement really isn't MY story to blog about... Jill's first birthday- well, that's up to Jenn... Michelle coming in town- that's up to her... Get it? So, while we've been very busy (and very blessed to be busy with such wonderful things and people), I feel pretty lame blogging about stuff that's not mine...

That's all.... I'm tired... Can you tell it's Friday?

Ella's New Friend

Every once in a while Anthony's dad, Andy, gets to come to Houston for business and stay with us. We LOVE having him in town! Tex of course follows him around EVERYWHERE, but he had never met Ella. Well, it was love at first sight for her... I walked through the den last night and this is what I found! Too cute!

I was actually really looking forward to Halloween this year because Anthony and I had a costume we were really excited about! We dressed up as GANGRENE. Actually, Anthony was a gangster, and I was all green, so we were GANG-GREEN! Disclaimer- we stole this idea from our friend Jill from a LONG time ago! I LOVED this idea and we had so much fun! Anthony is a natural gangster at heart (heehee) and did a great Eminem/Tupac impression. I had a great time in all green and even spray painted my hair! It took four washes at 1:30 am to wash it out, but it finally came out!

We went to Blanco's to see one of my sweet friends Lindsie's husband's band play. They were awesome and it was super fun! We went with Jake and Stacy and then met up with Michelle and Clay when we got there! Here are some funny pics from the night!

Gang-green at home!

The Waldrops- cop and prisoner

The Grahams- Charlie Brown and Sally

Lindsie, me, Michelle

Our favorite costume- A Morman!

True Thugs

We loved Halloween this year- but I can't believe it's already NOVEMBER! Crazy!!
